You all know me and my tendencies for random thoughts...so here's one for you! :) Ok everyone knows what a bucket list is and I'm sure many of you have written one! A list of all these things you want to accomplish before you pass away (whether they be extravagant or not) and they are usually things you do not do on a daily basis by any means! Most of my bucket list items fall into certain categories: 1) things I'm scared to do/try; 2) things I cannot afford; and 3) basic things that most people my age have done!
Here are a few examples and I'll let you decide which category they fall into! Learn how to change a tire, swim with dolphins, climb to the top of a lighthouse, go to a Huskers football game, ice skate in front of the Rockefeller Center, get a tattoo, go to two movies but only pay for one, etc. All of these items already seem special to me just because they are not part of my ordinary day. But why is it that our ordinary days cannot be filled with bucket list items? Maybe the day-to-day simple pleasures have become mundane and lost excitement because they are not new experiences?
So here's my random thought...what if I made a bucket list for every day? What would be on it and how would it change my perspective on the occurrences of my routines? If I had to think about my day today, I could add a few items that made it unique and special:
1. Giggle along with a patient and take the time to laugh
2. Thank God for my job, the people in my life, and their health
3. Deliver ice cream to a friend and catch up!
4. Make friends with a lady while in line at the Social Security office
5. Leave the windows open at home while I clean with the Christmas scentsy on!
God created us to enjoy life on earth...why make such extravagant lists of things we may never experience or attain when there are so many simple pleasures to appreciate in each day?! I am going to try to change my mindset and write a mental checklist of bucket list items I'd like to experience each day...I have a sneaky suspicion that it'll add a new spark & life to each day that I previously found monotonous! I dare you to join me!
